Kristen was my musical companion at Urban Abbey United Methodist Church during the worst season of the COVID19 pandemic. Together we sang the church liturgies and songs of comfort into a camera, in front of an empty room. In August 2021, Kristen and her spouse moved to Ohio. So before she left we decided to record a few of the songs that helped us get through that difficult time. This project is the result of that effort. ~kyle

You're the soul who understands the scars that made me who I am Through the drifting sands of time, I got your back and you got mine If you bear a heavy load, I'll be your wheels, I'll be the road I'll see us through the thick and thin, for love and loss until the end 'Cause you carried me with you From the highest of the peaks to the darkness of the blue I was just too blind to see Like a lighthouse in a storm, you were always guiding me Yeah, it's true, you carried me with you From the day it all began, yeah, you were there, you took my hand And when I hurt a bit too deep, you watched me as I fell asleep And when my head was in the clouds, you found a way to pull me out You picked my heart up off the ground, and showed me love was all around 'Cause you carried me with you From the highest of the peaks to the darkness of the blue I was just too blind to see Like a lighthouse in a storm, you were always guiding me Yeah, it's true, you carried me with you Oh, we'll be sittin' on the world together Watchin' as the days turn into night We know how to brave the stormy weather And we're never givin' up without a fight If you should ever bear a heavy load,I'll be your wheels, I'll be the road I'll see us through the thick and thin, for love and loss until the end 'Cause you carried me with you From the highest of the peaks to the darkness of the blue I was just too blind to see Like a lighthouse in a storm, you were always guiding me Yeah, it's true, you carried me with you Oh, you carried me with you

When my body won't hold me anymore, and it finally lets me free Will I be ready? When my feet won't walk another mile And my lips give their last kiss goodbye Will my hands be steady? When I lay down my fears, my hopes & my doubts The rings on my fingers & the keys to my house With no hard feelings When the sun hangs low in the west & the light in my chest won't be kept Held at bay any longer When the jealousy fades away, and it's ash and dust for cash and lust And it's just hallelujah And love in thoughts, And love in the words Love in the songs they sing in the church And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold with so much to have and hold When my body won't hold me anymore, and it finally lets me free Where will I go? Will the trade winds take me south thru Georgia grain or tropical rain Or snow from the heavens? Will I join with the ocean blue, or run into the savior true And shake hands laughing And walk thru the night straight to the light Holding the love I've known in my life And no hard feelings Lord knows they haven't done much good for anyone Kept me afraid and cold, with so much to have and hold Under the curving sky, I'm finally learning why It matters for me and you to say it and mean it too For life and its loveliness, and all of its ugliness Good as its been to me, I have no enemies I have no enemies, I have no enemies

Breakable 03:12
Have you ever thought about what protects our hearts? Just a cage of rib bones and other various parts. So it's fairly simple to cut right through the mess, And to stop the muscle that makes us confess. And we are so fragile, And our cracking bones make noise, And we are just, Breakable, breakable, breakable girls and boys. You fasten my seatbelt because it is the law. In your two ton death trap I finally saw. A piece of love in your face that bathed me in regret. Then you drove me to places I'll never forget. And we are so fragile, And our cracking bones make noise, And we are just, Breakable, breakable, breakable girls and boys. (short instrumental break) And we are so fragile, And our cracking bones make noise, And we are just, Breakable, breakable, breakable girls- Breakable, breakable, breakable girls- Breakable, breakable, breakable girls and boys.

All is Found 03:20
Where the north wind meets the sea There's a river full of memory Sleep, my darling, safe and sound For in this river all is found All is found When all is lost, all is found In her waters, deep and true Lay the answers and a path for you Dive down deep into her sound But not too far or you'll be drowned Yes, she will sing to those who'll hear And in her song, all magic flows But can you brave what you most fear? Can you face what the river knows? Until the rivers' finally crossed You'll never feel the solid ground You have to get a little lost On your way to being found Where the north wind meets the sea There's a mother full of memory Come, my darling, homeward bound Where all is lost, then all is found All is found, All is found

Let it Be 01:48
Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be Whisper words of wisdom, let it be Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be There will be an answer, let it be

I walked across an empty land I knew the pathway like the back of my hand I felt the earth beneath my feet Sat by the river and it made me complete Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting tired and I need someone to rely on I came across a fallen tree I felt the branches of it looking at me Is this the place we used to love? Is this the place that I've been dreaming of? Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need something to rely on And if you have a minute why don't we go Talk about it somewhere only we know? This could be the end of everything So why don't we go somewhere only we know? Somewhere only we know? Oh simple thing, where have you gone? I'm getting old and I need someone to rely on So tell me when you're gonna let me in I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin And if you have a minute why don't we go Talk about it somewhere only we know? 'Cause this could be the end of everything So why don't we go somewhere only we know? Somewhere only we know?

You are going to change your mind someday So just let go of all your thoughts on tomorrow You may find your bearings in disarray Though you may lead and trip and fall and follow All that you thought black will be proved red Full of life and complication and sorrow And all that you thought white was in your head Life is lived in the shadows that we borrow And I'll look far, but may see nothing And I will thirst, but may not drink And I will yell to those behind me, "Careful not to draw your maps in pen and ink" The signal disappears up ahead Will you ever understand this equation? And the compass in your hand is all but dead It's time to feel your way around this evasion Oh, and read those words again, you might see Life where you saw death, and a way to your salvation Best to lay down what you thought was certainty Freedom's found in that calmed frustration And I will strain to find the pattern Hold my breath, though I'm on the brink And I will yell to those behind me, "Careful not to draw your maps in pen and ink" Woh woh wo-oh wo-o-oh, Woh woh wo-oh woh Woh woh wo-oh wo-o-oh, Woh woh woh... You are going to change your mind someday So just let go of all your thoughts...

Imagine 03:08
Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace, you You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope some day you'll join us And the world will live as one

My soul cries out with a joyful shout that the God of my heart is great, and my spirit sings of the wondrous things that you bring to the ones who wait. You fixed your sight on your servant’s plight, and my weakness you did not spurn, so from east to west shall my name be blessed. Could the world be about to turn? My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn! Though I am small my God, my all, you work great things in me, and your mercy will last from the depths of the past to the end of the age to be. Your very name puts the proud to shame, and to those who would for you yearn, you will show your might, put the strong to flight, for the world is about to turn. My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn! From the halls of power to the fortress tower, not a stone will be left on stone. Let the king beware for your justice tears every tyrant from the throne. The hungry poor shall weep no more, for the food they can never earn; t There are tables spread, every mouth be fed, for the world is about to turn. My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn! Though the nations rage from age to age, we remember who holds us fast: God’s mercy must deliver us from the conqueror’s crushing grasp. This saving word that our forbears heard is the promise that holds us bound, Till the spear and rod can be crushed by God, who is turning the world around. My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn!

about

Kyle Knapp Omaha, Nebraska

Kyle looks at life as a sojourn rather than a destination, of which his songs and stories are a patchwork illustration. Life is a journey; music is a vehicle.

Sometimes gleefully flat-picking, sometimes softly finger-picking, sometimes strumming feverishly, Kyle Knapp combines his skill as a singer-songwriter with his passion as a storyteller to engage his listeners in a journey to the soul.
